Laws against sexual violence vary from state to state. A lot of progress has been made on both 
the federal and state levels. An example is the Violence Against Women Act, that was passed initially in 1994, which was recently renewed in October of 2000. This bill gives money to 
agencies that provide services to victims of sexual assault. There are probably programs in your 
area that benefit from this bill. If you have any questions about legislation, a good place to start 
might be your state’s Coalition Against Sexual Violence.
